Canon's G9 - a little demo...

The upper picture is without any zoom, taken on an IXUS-30, to show the target in the second one.

The second shows the flowers I was aiming for, and was taken on a PowerShot G9, with the doubler lens added, and the zoom set to maximum, which is 24x combined optical & digital on the camera's
built-in lens, times 2 for the added doubler. It's a little fuzzy, because of course there's digital zoom involved, but also because it was raining heavily as I took this, and the rain was quite obvious while looking through the viewer as the shot was made. So all in all, I think it turned out very well. And as soon as the weather improves, I want to try it again, using only the optical zoom features, and see
how that looks. But for now, I'm really impressed. This little rig can shoot for ten miles and throw rocks the rest of the way....
