Vega de San Mateo, Gran Canaria....

When they say this is in the northeastern mountainous region, they obviously aren't kidding. When you have to terrace the hillsides to keep the cows from rolling down the slope into the valley below, it's mountainous alright. This reminds us of China or maybe parts of Switzerland. (Heidi, where are you?) Monsieur Beep's elusive hammock still has not been located, but I think we're getting warmer....

  1. This must be a suburbian area of San Mateo. I can't recognize the location showed in this picture. Maybe it's because it depends on from which direction you get to the town which looks like a cluster of brown and ocher houses when I approach the town via the GC 41 from the east. This road is very scenic and a pleasure to drive along.
I'm pleased that you take so much interest in this lovely island, Ray.

  2. Unfortunately, I'm limited to whatever I can learn from Google Earth and its pictures donated mostly by tourists. One thing that's confusing for me is that there seems to be more than one place with the same or nearly the same name. I'm sure the locals know the difference, but it's not easy for strangers to figure it out.

Also, my Spanish is about as good as my French - I studied French for four years in secondary school, and consistently got about 28 out of 100 on the exams. Later on, I married a French Canadian girl, and she couldn't speak it either! Why not? Je n'en ai pas la moindre idee, Monsieur...
