Not much happening today...

The weather's been dull and rainy, or maybe snowy depending if you're up on the hilltops, and there's not a lot to report. I'm reading instead of writing today. What am I reading?  I'm reading Margaret Wente's latest book, 'You Can't Say That in Canada!'. She's not only a prize winning columnist with The Globe and Mail newspaper, but also a very entertaining writer of books, and she spins a good readable yarn. And now, if you'll excuse me, it's back to the book...

I've finished the book, and it's an enjoyable read. Margaret shares her thoughts on a variety of topics, and does it with insight and humour. It's easy to see why she has won awards for her writing. It's one of those books that seems to end too soon. The Good News is that we can still find her column in The Globe and Mail newspaper.

  1. I also have my nose digged into books and magazines. I even love the smell of new and old books! What will people think of a guy who sniffs at books in a bookshop!

  2. Just don't do that with bicycle seats at the mall :)

We used to have a couple of charming little second-hand book shops here,
but they've now disappeared, and all we have instead are a couple of monster book supermarkets with frequent-reader discounts (for a $20 membership fee) and their own built-in coffee bars, and wall-to-wall racks of the latest and best of everything, and a computerized check-out like at the grocery stores - everything but a friendly clerk handy when you can't find something the kid downstairs had pointed out to you on the map before you went upstairs to look for it. Whatever happened to service anyway?
