Old-time music: Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians....

In a previous post (about Flying United) TC and I got going on about YouTube videos we've found, and she asked me about the tune called "Goodbye Broadway, Hello Montreal" which isn't easy to find, because it commonly leaves off the first two words of that title, and goes by "Hello, Montreal"..... so after a long and anxious search ( at least a minute!) I found the Fred Waring version - in which old Fred himself does the vocal they say..... so click this link please....

'Goodbye, Broadway - Hello, Montreal'

  3. @ Tommy -

Here's a picture of an old RCA Victor Talking Machine (today's blog).

    @ Uncle Ron -

Yep - saw those pictures - and one of them I think is an almost nude shot of the famous vocalist Ruth Etting, who was said to be involved with a famous gangster of that era. Don't know who he was, but she was a great-looking gal with a terrific voice. Her version of "Love Me Or Leave Me" beats the hell out of Doris Day's more recent imitation.

  5. @ Uncle Ron -

Yes - what I meant by that was that back in 1955, Doris Day played the role of Ruth Etting in the movie 'Love Me or Leave Me' with James Cagney playing the part of her gangster husband. That movie was titled after one of Ruth Etting's most famous hits, which she sang better than Doris Day does in that movie.

In 1973, CBS released an LP of the soundtrack music electronically enhanced for stereo from that movie, and I've still got it. I wish I had the originals done by Ruth Etting herself. I think she was the better singer of the two.
She also looked hotter in her flimsies...

  6. Geez Ray that stuff is so old that Guy Lombardo would not have recognized it.
