Cereal without added sugar?

It's Crispix, and it's not bad even without adding sugar with the milk. My doctor would be pleased, even if I'm not exactly ecstatic.

  1. Hi, Ray...

You're doing a good job, trying to keep down that bugger of sugar! I'm right with you on that challenge!

Have you tried wheat germ and milk with just a few blueberries, slices of banana, or some other fruit? Natural fructose sugar, from fruit, is much better than some of the other things. Buy a fresh bottle of wheat germ and store it in the fridge. Try to start with just a 1/4 cup and...you'll be surprised: it "plumps" when the milk is added and has a sweet, nutty taste to it. Quite yummy!

I, often just have one slice of bread and fry 2 eggs over medium with a tiny bit of coconut oil. Coconut oil is really good for you. 'The Coconut Oil Miracle' is a really good book about it, as well. :-)

And...if you can find a grocery store w/a natural/health section, liquid stevia is quite good as a sweetener, as well.

And...of course, the more fiber in your diet, the better! My doctor suggested I follow the "rules" of 'South Beach Diet as well.

    Hang in there, Ray!

  2. I agree with TC(Girl)...You seem to be watching your diet and trying to eat healthfully...

I have my own mixture of cereals which I find both appetizing and healthful...I take a gallon plastic bag and in it I mix: 4 cups of ground oats...4 cups of plain Cheerios...one cup of almond slices...one cup of sunflower kernels and one cup of raisins

Note: chopped walnuts of pecans can be substitued for the almons...

Once they are mixed I take a cup of the mixture and add one sliced banana or one sliced peach or even some sliced dried apricots if I don't have fresh fruit available...You can eat this mixture raw of you can pour some juice or milk on it as you like...I prefer juice...

    enjoy...

  3. Thank you both for your helpful suggestions.

When it comes to giving up sugar, I feel a lot like the reluctant bridegroom at a shotgun wedding.

  4. Hi Ray,
Well I have used the South Beach Diet and lost 40 lbs. It cuts out all sugar at least for the first 2 wks. Now in the morning I have a serving of fruit, serving of bran buds, serving of raisin bran,a few cherrios, all in one cereal bowl. One pkg. of Splenda. Makes you get up in the morning raring to go.
