Lester Lanin's Orchestra

One of the great dance orchestras of yesteryear. And here's another of his...

And here's his more usual style - medleys of dance tunes....

  1. INteresting, the first one is from an album in 1958. My first car was a 1958 Ford Fairlain 500!!!

I loved that car, except for the fact that it broke down just about every time I got a pay check.

  3. Hi, Tom -

Your 1958 Ford sounds like my 1957 Ford - it was my first new car, and it started falling apart with only 308 miles on it, when the oil pump shaft broke, and left me on the road in the middle of the night 30 miles from the nearest town. I enjoyed that car so much, I haven't bought another Ford product since.

I only have one Lester Lanin album in playable condition, but it's a nice one with a lot of old standards on it, and it moves right along. There are six medleys on each side, and it's title is "Happy Go Lanin". I can't see a date on it, but it must be from the 1950s, because it's not stereo.
But the experts tell me a good mono recording is just as good anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lester Lanin was the inspiration for James Last, because it's much the same sort of music. It's hard to sit still while listening to either of them.
