That Recovery Drive story... the next chapter

Bad News, Folks..... after all that, when I tried to use the newly-created Recovery Drive, my Windows 8.1 which created it said: "not valid". Wonderful!
Good thing I didn't really need to refresh my system image, huh? I'd have been in some deep doo-doo for sure.

Anyway, starting all over again, go to this Microsoft website for instructions.

As you follow its directions, your Command Prompt (in Administrator mode) should look like this:

and as all that finishes doing its thing, it will look like this:-

and when you look at your C:\ drive for its main contents, you should see this:

And now we come to the fly in the ointment. Your next step in this process would logically be to create a Recovery Drive, using that newly-created recovery image.  On that web page mentioned above ( this one ) in item 3. it says: "After the recovery drive tool opens, make sure Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive check box is selected and
then tap or click Next."

On mine that check box and its line are greyed out, so I couldn't select it, and even though I copied the contents of the recovery folder onto that USB drive, it wasn't recognized as a legitimate drive when I tried to test it with a sample recovery.

Summarizing, the Windows 8.1 which created all this doesn't recognize its own work  and won't let you follow the directions in its own instructions, in order to complete the process it is guiding you through to create that recovery drive. Mighty Microsoft, please copy!
