Today's Question Everything...

Today's question is: "Why can I have I.E. 11 in Windows 7, but not in Windows 8 unless I upgrade to Windows 8.1?"

And if you're having problems with that Google pop-up appearing in your Blogger page, and perhaps even preventing you from accessing your blog after you cancel it or close the pop-up window......

Try going into Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off (left side margin) and remove the check from the box in front of your Internet Explorer. Give Windows time to make some changes, then do a reboot.

After the Reboot, use your Command Prompt in Administrator mode with the command "SFC /scannow" (without quotes) and you're doing this to confirm the integrity of your system files, before you re-select (re-install) your Internet Explorer in the above-mentioned procedure. Once the System File Checker says your files are OK, then go back into Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off, and click the box to restore the check  for your Internet Explorer, and let Windows re-install it.

That won't get rid of that annoying pop-up in Blogger, but it will allow you to access your blog after you click on the pop-up window to close it. And that's about the best you can do in Windows 7 until Google makes Blogger compatible with Internet Explorer 11. And I have a theory about why that's taking so long, and I think you can guess what it might be. Google wants you to use their browser instead of Microsoft's. Let's look at that for a moment....

A year or so back, when rumors were flying about regulating the Internet, Google led the charge to save our asses from Big Government and Keep The Internet Free. Remember that? And here they are now, flexing their muscles and trying to intimidate us into using everything Google, instead of making our own choices. What's happening to freedom of choice? Do we still have some?
Is it still worth protecting? We should ask Google about this.

It's one thing to engage in the usual industrial warfare with the competition, but when the general public gets used for ammunition in that war, then we ought to have something to say about it. And I can't print what I'd say about it.

P.S. > Some further reading:This about Windows 7 and I.E.11 but the comments will also apply to I.E.10 because both are designed to be used without plugins or add-ons, unless it requests one be added to properly display content. You can also enable Enhanced Protection Mode for better protection against malware, etc., as described at the bottom of that article, or, if you're in a hurry, by going to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Security > Enable Enhanced Protection Mode, and click OK, then do a Restart of your PC.
