The Romance of the Rails, and all that...


Amtrak aims to create a 'hobo heaven' on rails, in the hope that famous and wannabe-famous writers will take a free ride and write something nice to publicize the 'Romance of the Rails' and perhaps stave off bankruptcy....

And for those of us who might like that picture for a wallpaper, but without the overprinting of direction signs and other image-spoiling marks, here it is....

    Trains and I go 'way back to when I was about ten, and had to meet a passenger train that came through town at between five-thirty and six in the mornings with the day's morning papers on it from Toronto, Ontario, and my faithful dog and I had to deliver our share of those to the uninformed masses around our parts of town. For next to nothing and in all kinds of weather. The rewards included knowing most of the town's dirty little secrets before breakfast.
    And sometimes creating the odd one...
