It's now operational...


There's more to this than meets the eye - its eye, that is. This 37-year-old 747 is carrying a 17-ton German-made infrared camera and telescope system which
is being flown at around 45,000 feet when taking pictures of deep space, so its
images will not be degraded by about 90% of the earth's atmosphere. After a long series of test flights, and a recent upgrading of the aircraft and its camera systems in Germany, it has now been declared fully operational.
