Mars or Bust (Mars and Bust?)

Some things just baffle the hell out of me - quantum mechanics and its 'fuzzy' atoms, the purpose of life, and why the hell anyone in their right mind would go to Mars knowing it's a one-way trip, and there's nothing there but the remains of a wrecked planet without any of the things we're used to - like air and water and vegetables.....
