Tax time again, YeeHaw!!

And filing the return on line beats hell out of snail mail. All I have to do now is wait patiently for Canada Revenue Agency to send my refund.

But I'm definitely not impressed with TurboTax Canada. I answered the opening questionnaire, and they recommended the Basic program. Then I discovered it couldn't handle charitable donations, so I had to upgrade to a better version, at twice the price. And then twice during my filling in the blanks, the damned thing died on me, and I had to begin from the beginning again. I don't care for their "bait and switch" technique, or having it die on the vine unexpectedly.

I eventually got through it, and filed my return with the CRA, but I wasn't happy with that TurboTax program.

  1. I've used TurboTax for years and each year I get stumped on something and have to guess. They advertise that you don't need to be an accountant to run it, but the questions that get asked would really take an accountant to understand! That's just the question, now try and figure out the answer???

So far it's been ok though. Phew....

  2. Hi, Tom -

From my own experience, I'd suggest beginning with their "Standard" version
    instead of that "Basic" one.
And don't forget to open their "Forms" link and double-check what's shown there,
and if necessary, double-click on something you need to change.
I like to fill in the forms myself, so I'm sure what's there.
And good luck with it! It took me four attempts before I got the program
to stay working and finish everything like it should be, and then file
my return with the government tax office and get a receipt for it.
And that's not the song they sing in their ads....
