This comes from the 1944 movie 'Going My Way' in which 'Der Bingle' plays a progressive young priest assigned to a downtrodden parish, where he works to get it out of debt, but tangles with authority. And no, I don't have a great memory, but I do have the book 'Videohound's Golden Movie Retriever' which tells all, and rates the movie with three and a half bones out of a possible four, meaning that it is "Memorable cinematic fare with flair, verve, polish, sheen, and panache. Easily able to recommend to friends."
