In the previous post's comments, Tommy was asking about performance of his browser. That got me thinking about ways of improving the performance in general, and there are a couple of useful 'freebies' which will help you do that:-
Glary Utilities and Wise Registry Cleaner Free
Scroll down their main page until you get to the 'free version' downloads. Both of these work quite well, and will remove entries that are no longer needed or useful in the system. The Glary program is a very simple one to use, and it works quickly.

Interesting...FYI, my computer seems to be running just fine. It's only Firefox that seems to be loading slowly.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I've read a little about and used System Mechanic and it seems to work fairly well.
@ Tommy -
ReplyDeleteTry completely uninstalling it, and then re-install a fresh version, and see if that restores its speedy response.
After you do the uninstall, have a look for its Program Files program folder, just to make sure that's either empty or gone. Also look in your Username/AppData/ folder (normally a hidden folder) for any bits of it there, and remove them.
If you're using Windows 7 or Vista,
there's Ultimate Windows Tweaker,
which is a TweakUI for these newer ones. It has a lot of features, and does a lot of things.
As you may have guessed, I'm a freebies fan, and a lot of my programs on here are freeware. The
ones I keep all work the way they said they would, and do the job,
or out they go! There's some good stuff out there, if you hunt for it. Try Googling for whatever you want it to do, and see what comes up. You might be surprised.
