Bird-watching.....

Not my sharpest shots, at 24X zoom,
and my excuse is the weather and
the cameraman. That would be me.

I'm better with crows and seagulls. If I hold a piece of bread out the window, the crows won't quite come close enough to take it, preferring that I leave it on the window ledge and back away. But a couple of days ago, one seagull got brave enough to actually fly up to my outstretched arm, and take the bread from my hand. When one of them is that close, and hovering in midair like that , they are an impressive bird. I wish I could have taken a picture of that. It would be a real keeper.

  1. Hi, Ray!

Nice shots! Haven't seen a "baldy" in quite some time! We have a few, in the area, but they are quite rare to see.

We put some bread out on the deck and watched the beautiful and very skittish Stellar Jays swoop down to pick up a piece or two. They are very observant, shy, and NOISY! They would wait until none of us were watching, before they landed and picked up their stuff and were off in a jiffy!

You should try to rig a fishing pole, (without a hook on the end, of course! lol!) viced down, w/a piece of bread secured on the end hanging out the window; focus on it, w/your camera, and see if you can get a shot (set to an action shot!) of that silly bird! Would be FUN to try! I am going to try to do same w/my "skitty" birds; I like the challenge! :-D

Those Jays like not only regular bird food, but also puffed wheat, and
popcorn (popped) and small pieces of bread. If you get a big bag of puffed wheat at the grocery store, and spread it on the deck, or a plank on the top of the back fence,
they will pack it off into the bush and hide it in trees until it's all gone. So just because they're taking it away, it doesn't mean they're starving - it just means they are like packrats.

I will try to get a picture of one of those gulls.

I'll try to get you a better shot of an eagle.

    Try this website:

    http://www.tyleringram.com/blog/eagles-of-brackendale

I'll try emailing you a couple of those if I can enlarge them OK.

They have an annual Eagle count out there about this time of year,
and this year's was yesterday, I think. I didn't go. There's a myth that says if you get crapped on by an Eagle, it brings you good luck.
All it really brings is a trip to the laundry and quickly! Woof!
