A little more on that "gwt.xml module"

I've been all morning trying to get rid of that pop-up in Blogger on my Win-7 and I couldn't get rid of it, even using that Tweaking.com Windows Repair that I mentioned previously.

I did, however, find a couple of websites that throw more light on the problem. It seems that the problem is being caused by a conflict between Blogger.com and recent changes made by Microsoft to Internet Explorer, specifically I.E.11.
Until those are resolved by Blogger's engineering people, there will be that pop-up, and some people can't access their blogs while all this goes on.

I tried several different tricks this morning to work around that, but none were successful, so all I can say for now is that this is going to be a problem until the Google people get their stuff working peacefully with other browsers.

That Tweaking program mentioned will fix it for Windows 8 using I.E.11, but that doesn't seem to work in Windows 7, unfortunately. Someone suggested using I.E.'s "Compatibility View" and adding "blogger.com" (without quotes) to its list, but I tried that, and it didn't work for me in Windows 7. I didn't need that for Windows 8, because the Tweaking.com program fixed that one.

How to disconnect Skydrive in Windows 8

A lot of us don't like the idea of having our personal information stored in the cloud, where we can't control who may have access to it. It's a security issue for many of us.

The other day, Tom and I were discussing this, and he said that he wished there was a way to solve this problem. The above screenshot may be the answer. I haven't tried this yet myself, but I'm going to give it a try, because I don't trust the cloud any more than Tom does. If you're like me, you may want to try this.

Newspapers aren't what they used to be....

Today begins my subscription to the local daily paper after a lapse of several years, during which I've been busy on the computer instead of pestering Dear Editor with a word processor and a fax machine.

There was a time when I was mentioned in one of their articles, about their most frequent letter-writers, because I contributed something by fax almost daily for several years, mostly about political issues of the time. Dear Editor and I made a pretty good team. But that was then, and this is now, and times have really changed.

I opened my paper this morning to be greeted by big ads for things like "Dr. Ho" that I'd quickly flip past in TV commercials, and now I'm wondering if my loyalty to the home-town news publisher was all that wise a decision. One thing that got me wondering was when I activated my digital account, and immediately found myself dealing with some outfit in New York City. Hell, that's not even in my own country. I have a feeling this subscription may not last very long....

I owe Google an apology...

I've recently been blaming Google for a pop-up on here that really was a problem with Microsoft's Internet Explorer, so Google, I'm sorry! I forgot to engage brain before opening mouth....

Download and run this free program.....

And after you've run this and want to make sure everything's OK, then you
can use your Admin Command Prompt to run the following.....

And running those two commands will confirm that you're still OK. "And what got fixed?" you ask. Well, for starters, I'm no longer getting that ugly little
pop-up from Google telling me that my Internet Explorer versions don't match the ".gwt.xml module" - which, by the way, doesn't show up on a search of the system's files. But I don't care, as long as that nuisance pop-up is gone. And it looks like the Tweaking program fixed that. So Tom, if you're reading this, give it a shot and see if it fixes yours.

Vinyl is coming back!

Aren't you glad you've still got your direct-drive Quartz turntable with the Grado pickup cartridge? And those 12-inch LPs you've been saving? Like the song says, 'Everything old is new again'.

Wondering why? It's because vinyl has nice big grooves that reproduce the sound with a more life-like quality. With a good pickup cartridge like a Grado, your vinyl can sound better than a CD of the same stuff. I've confirmed that with Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side'. The vinyl LP playing through my old Technics Stereo with its honeycomb speakers sounds better than the CD version. It has a fuller and richer sound.

Winamp may still be alive and well...

I've been using the Winamp player for years, because I love its compact little 'windowshade' mode that fits right into the upper frame of an open Window, and
lets me control the player without using a lot of space. So like others, I was not happy to hear it was closing as of December 20th. I hope this deal goes ahead, because Winamp is still a great player, and it deserves to live on. It has nice skins, a great sound, and it does everything well. Let's keep it going, please!

Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit test beta...

If you were testing the beta of this, and received a notice that it was expiring on December 31st, and you should therefore uninstall it, what we weren't so obviously told is that the original test beta has been replaced by another version, and the above shows details of this latest version of it. What's with Microsoft and its Windows?

Today's Question Everything is: "Are we looking at 'The Decline and Fall of Mighty Microsoft'?" And could this explain the 'Vegetable Soup' approach to their
most recent Windows 8, and its Service Pack One they're calling Windows 8.1?

Did they reach the pinnacle of Windows development with Windows 7? Has it been downhill from there ever since?

If they're losing several of their most experienced Windows execs and the CEO as soon as a suitable replacement is found, where does that leave Windows and those of us anxiously awaiting Windows 9? Mighty Microsoft please respond!

And about Windows 9: Shouldn't we be seeing a public test beta some day soon? I've applied just about all the tweaks I find really useful to Windows 8, and I need something new to play with. Why don't you put everything into the cloud, and then all we need is a browser (and you know whose!) to access it,
and once we log in, we can use all our pre-selected options for the operating system. That way, it becomes truly hardware-independent, and it works on everything, just like you hoped it would. And I don't need a hard-drive big enough to use for a boat anchor. You, on the other hand, need some world-class servers, which you could get if you bought out Google - and I wish you would!
Maybe then, we'd get some of their stuff properly finished off. How do you like the plan so far?

All Things Digital...

These nice folks kissed us all a fond farewell on December 31st, asking "How can you miss us if we won't leave?" and here it is January 2nd, and they're still very much with us. Not, I hasten to add, that I'm complaining. I'm not. I think they're a very informative and friendly bunch, and I wish they'd stick around.
