Religion, Politics, and Spin-Doctoring: Epilogue

In the preceding two posts, I've been critical of both Republican politicians and His Holiness, Pope Francis, and please let me clarify all this in the words of Walt Kelly's beloved little Pogo......

"He is us" indeed! All of us. No exceptions. Me, you, everybody! None of us have really put our hearts and backs into saving Mother Earth, because we've all had too many other irons in the fire. Sure, we want to save our home planet, but we don't want to have to inconvenience ourselves much in the process.

And as His Holiness points out, halfway, half-assed, half-hearted semi-effective and regional procedures just won't do it. This has to be an all-or-nothing effort, and we're never going to sell that to the likes of the Koch brothers and their utterly contemptible butt-smooching Republican shit-shovelers. But we must certainly try, and failing that, do our damnedest to make sure they don't end up calling all the plays for the rest of the game. Because if they do, the game's going to be a lot shorter and much less pleasant. For a preview of that, check out the air pollution in Beijing at present. Then imagine the whole globe like that, with people needing masks to go outdoors. And that will get worse, until we're fighting to buy enough oxygen to keep us breathing through that filth.

The concept of "Hell" isn't some Biblical character's mythical fear-mongering.
It's in our future right here where we are now, unless we do what must be done to hold it off. And as the religious literature has pointed out, the road to Hell is paved with Good Intentions. And the paving company is probably owned by guys like the Koch brothers who don't care how fast we go to Hell as long as they make a handsome profit from it. So are you going to help people like that, or would you rather help the rest of us save our world?
