About Java and Firefox browser....
Everybody uses Java, right? And the latest version at this writing is Java 6, Update 29. So why am I telling you this? Because... almost everybody also uses Firefox as their browser of choice - or us smart ones do, anyway. And therein lies the problem, Kiddies....
If you've done a couple of updates to your Java, or you have its automatic updates feature enabled, and you've then gone into your Firefox browser to check its Add-ons -> Extensions, and you've seen one or more entries there reading: "Java Console is incompatible with Firefox [version blah-blah]", and you don't know how to get rid of that silly entry because it doesn't have the usual [Remove] option button on it, then here's what to do to get rid of it:-
Go to -> C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Extensions, and look for any and all entries which start with the letters CAFFE or CAFFEE plus more alphanumerics, and simply delete each one of those items. There may be only the one, or there may be more than one. Delete them all. Then, go back into your Firefox browser's Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions and check for the warning(s) about the incompatible Java Console. You'll find that it is now gone, and peace has returned to the valley. Enjoy your day!

"Because... almost everybody also uses Firefox as their browser of choice"
ReplyDeleteFYI, I think that may be a matter of opinion. An awful lot of people use IE and are very happy with it. Actually according to the latest that I have read in the trade, IE does indeed reign.
Of course, it's just like the old Ford vs. Chevy argument.. :-)
Hi, Tommy -
ReplyDelete"It's just like the old Ford vs. Chevy argument..." - Not exactly!
Firefox has a whole lot of add-ons
and extensions which enhance its security features and its usefulness and I.E. is lagging behind in that department. Not as secure, and not as
useful because of that - and not as often updated either.
For example, have a look at this:-
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/betterprivacy/
Or email me at garsutton@gmail.com
and I'll send you a link or two about it, if you wish.
But you're right about I.E. being more popular. It's more popular mostly because up until very recently, it came packaged with the Microsoft Windows O/S, and you couldn't have one without the other. But now, those are separated, and we can have one without the other - because guys like me suggested to Mighty Microsoft that we really ought to have a choice and decide for ourselves, and if their own stuff was really the best, they wouldn't have anything to fear from its competition. In other words, enough with the Microsoft-everything philosophy - let's have a free choice of what's on our computers, and suit ourselves.
Windows 7 does that to a greater degree than any other Windows we ever had, and I love it for that reason, and also because Microsoft has finally begun listening to its consumers who pay handsomely for its products, instead of their former attitude of "It's our way or the highway, Baby!"
