Two Performance Index Results on the same PC

This is interesting, and the reason it's interesting is because both of these operating systems are running on the same shared hard-drive of one computer. And I think I can explain the difference in the two Performance Ratings. That's probably because in Windows 8, with its colorful Start Screen and all those Apps that are always available, plus its regular Desktop, on which if you're like me you also have a row of icons standing dutifully on one side, what's happening here is that we're basically running two desktops at the same time - the one you see and are working on, and the other in the background, waiting in the wings for its turn on center stage. And all that extra activity costs points off your Performance Score, in especially one area - your graphics. So we may need better graphics cards to get the best performance from our multitasking Windows 8. This rig has only 256 Mb of RAM on its graphics card, so I may have to get that changed. It would be better with 512 Mb or even 1 Gb, so there wouldn't be any waiting in line while things go zippity-doo-dah in there.

Here's what determines your score - the lowest number, and that's for Graphics.

Here is a new result after changing from 'Let Windows decide' to the setting for 'Best Performance'. This setting eliminates a lot of the fancy frills, but it also takes a load off the graphics card, and this shows by how much. So this is quite interesting, especially if you're wondering about your graphics card.

Please Note:
I reset the Performance selection back to "Let Windows decide" and ran that test again, and the final score this time stayed at 3.1 - so now I'm wondering how it got that previous 2.8 that it had before. Maybe something got reset in there during my changes from one setting to another. It's better now, but there's still a difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8, because there are differences in the behaviors of the two systems. But I'm relieved to see the score improved to above 3.0 because that's about the minimum you want if you are to have decent graphics performance for Aero effects and etc.
