After installation, I had no sound. Reading discussion group notes about it, there were suggestions to install some other sound drivers. That didn't seem quite right to me, so I checked my other Windows operating system on the drive, and noticed that Microsoft itself provides an HD sound driver.
When I looked in Control Panel > Programs and Features, there were two installed Audio programs; one from nVidia, and one from Realtek. I removed both of them, and then went into Sounds and activated Microsoft's own version. I now have normal audio, like before the upgrade. It plays Windows Sounds, and also YouTube Videos, or whatever. So if you're having this problem, and apparently many of us are, this will fix it. It worked for me.
Changing the topic here, before I exit stage left smiling broadly, if you would like to be rid of those silly arrows on your desktop icons, normally, the program Ultimate Windows Tweaker from Windows Club does that - but if you choose the latest version, for Windows 8 and 8.1, it won't work right. It leaves a white patch in place of the removed arrow. The fix that works is to download the previous version of it - the version 2.2, NOT version 3. The version 2.2 works as expected, and removes those arrows without leaving something else behind. But you do need to perform a Restart before the changes take effect.
And on that cheerful note, I'll leave you to do your tweaking of Build 10041.....
