PSST!!! - Want to make you own icons?

First, let's choose a familiar face, and then let's make sure the image is square. Put it into an editing program, and add to it or subtract from it until it's square. Why? Because all icons are images with equal sides, and yours should be too.

Then, you choose the color depth and the icon size range for it, and check the little preview, and then you're ready to turn it into an icon, and file it with the others in your collection.....

...Where it's now an .ico file, with all the others in one of your icon folders - and yes, there's more than one of them. I went on an icon-making binge once, and did a whole lot of them. Kids and their new toys, and all that.... suffice it to say, I've got icons now that I wouldn't dare try to use, except for personal use. And not too much of that either. But I did learn how, and that was the point. And you can too, if you get this great icon-making program.

And if you thought I was using Rachel's picture just as an example of how to do this, you'd be wrong - this is an actual working Internet shortcut to her blog.
