Having problems with Windows Store Apps? Here's a troubleshooter for them.
It may or may not help you a lot. I'm having trouble getting any action from the App for USA Today. It installs or uninstalls, but that's all it does. The Apps Troubleshooter said "Your Display Adapter driver may need updating." I went into Device Manager, to Display Adapter, clicked on 'Update Driver' and was told
"You already have the latest driver for this device".
So my solution for all that is to uninstall any App that doesn't perform correctly, and then look for one that does work. I like the nice big pictures on the USA Today App, whenever it works, but that's not the only game in town. NBC News works very well, and it doesn't have to be coaxed. And that's good, because I have a very low tolerance for clutter that only takes up space. That's why there's a Recycle Bin - and if something comes up saying "Access Denied", I have something for that, too. Igor at Emco Software in Iceland made a really great little program called MoveOnBoot which can remove anything but your socks & unmentionables. For those, you'll need more help.
How does it work? Very sneakily - it does its thing during a reboot, while the computer's programming is unloaded from memory, and therefore it has access to all those 'protected' and 'system' files and folders to which access is normally denied. And a lot of malware these days hides in such places. And Igor's program works just perfectly on stuff like that, and he has already updated it for Windows 8, because we talked about that while I was testing Win-8 beta. This is probably the most useful freebie you'll find on the web, and it works wonders when nothing else can. Check it out. It has a Wizard for quickly helping with the chores.
