Looks as if my mother's relatives on the old sod, the whole 13 of them, may have recently discovered my blog. I'm somewhat less popular in the U.K., even though my father's people have a fairly common surname derived from pre 7th century Old English elements 'suth' for 'south' and 'tun' for village or settlement. I've often wondered if father's ancestors left merry old England voluntarily, or because it was healthier to go sailing than stay home.
