Windows 10: Stellarium installed...

This is a fun program, and a magnificent 'freebie', and you really ought to have it installed on your computer. With this program, you don't need NASA to get you to Mars.... just get Mars displaying on-screen, and then press CTRL+G and the program changes to show you the sky as if you were standing on Mars itself. And how cool is that? You really ought to have this program, especially if you have kids - they'll love it. Even kids my age love it!

Here we are on Mars, looking for Earth, but it hasn't risen yet, so I'm going to remove the "Ground" where we're standing, and then we can see more of the sky where it will be.....

And there it is, away off in the distance, just like Mars appears from here - and we can't make out any details....

So I'm going to hit the spacebar here to center it on the screen, and then....

.....we can fly in a little closer, for a better look, by rolling the center wheel on the mouse. And to return home to Earth ourselves, we simply press CTRL+H.

See what I mean about this being a neat program? You can become your own Astronaut, and go places almost in the blink of an eye. And discover just how empty space really is, and why we're really lucky to be where we are, instead of "out there" somewhere. Those people who volunteered to go to Mars should have used this program for a while first, before deciding. They might have changed their minds about how "romantic" that barren, frozen wasteland is.

And then maybe not. If they're determined to become martyred Martians, there's probably not a lot we can do for them.
