America: What's wrong with you?

What's wrong with America? In the land of the free and the home of the brave, the town cops have turned into gestapo and are butchering unarmed civilians.
Why?

Partly because of the NRA, and the general paranoia around guns and gun ownership and 'packing heat in public' and not being able to determine that easily, and having a 'wild west' attitude similar to 'Gunfight at the OK Corral'
and shooting first and asking questions later. And what's wrong with all that?

For starters, the dead can't defend themselves, can't demand their rights, and can't receive proper justice nor benefit from any which may come later. And what part of 'To Serve and Protect' says anything about 'or maybe we'll just shoot you'?

Far too many in the security and policing fraternity fancy themselves as being some kind of 'Dirty Harry' or 'Wyatt Earp', and far too many are trigger-happy goons who should never have been admitted to the force in the first place.
There ought to be psychological tests and background checks to indicate whether or not someone ought to be turned loose on the unsuspecting citizens with live ammunition and military style weaponry. Defending America shouldn't mean killing off the taxpayers and their kids. This isn't the Third Reich.

Question Everything: Why did it take a week to get to the facts? This reminds us of Dubya and his 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' fantasy before starting the war with Iraq. Again, I ask: "America, what's wrong with you?" It looks very much as if your main form of exercise is jumping to conclusions. And it wouldn't hurt a damned bit to engage brain before opening mouth either.
