Windows 8: Finally, up-to-date....

Another batch of updates, and a notice to restart my computer so Windows could fix an error on the drive, another couple of troubleshooter repairs to the Windows Updates, another three sessions of downloading and installing updates, and another 1,020 fragmented files (above) and finally..... Finally! It's Done!
All I can say (publicly at least) is "WOOF!!!" And they'd like me to download their free update for version 8.1? Am I that brave? That stupid? That young?

After all that, I dug out an old DVD to add a couple of programs into the folder.

This is the one that makes my custom icons, and the image on its main window is last night's sunset here, about to become a new Windows icon.....

Which is shown here, applied to the Windows 8 Prefetch folder. A lot of the other icons on here that you don't recognize as being genuine Windows were made with this same program. It works on just about any image that you can crop into a square, and preferably ones that will still look half-decent when reduced to icon sizes. This sunset one obviously wasn't cropped to a square shape, but in that case, the program adds transparency to make up the difference, so the end result fulfills the requirement of being a maximum of 256 pixels square.

And now for the bad news: Mine was an early 'freebie' version. It's now gone Pro and will cost you. That's why I saved mine on a disc, because how often do we really need this? It's fun, but not with the grocery money.....
