If your regular security leaves you wondering...
...if it missed something, or if you've picked up something that your regular one(s) didn't detect, try a rootkit scan using Norton Power Eraser. This is a free program that scans for things that your regular security programs may not be able to recognize. It's good to run a program like this periodically.
I didn't like the terms of the agreement. They want to be able to remove software that they deem not good from my computer. Also, I need to create and account with them.
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong, but I think maybe you misunderstood them. They mean that they need your OK to remove any rootkits or malware they might find, as soon as they find it, before it spreads.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've never created an account with them - I just click on the "OK" buttons and let them do their thing.
If they find something suspicious, you can choose to have them search the cloud to find out if it's something new but OK which just hadn't been added to their lists yet, or whether it really is bad stuff. If you do that, and get a little green check mark in the box, it means your suspicious file is really OK after all.
It's up to you, Tom, but I think this one's safe to use, and they aren't really asking for anything, except for a copy of their own report for their files. That's the price you pay for their scan, and I think it's worth it.
This program was recommended to me by the owner of this ISP that provides my Internet, and he has given me a lot of help over the years, and I've never had reason to doubt his advice.
