Paranoically Speaking....

If I were in their shoes, I'd be concerned too. None of these digital gossip-mongers are doing much more than you or I could with our digital cameras and our desktop computers, if we ignore the fact that they have flunkies spread around all over the country and the globe, feeding our curiosity, and disrupting our train of thought - derailing it perhaps - while we ought to be otherwise engaged. And there's entirely too much repetition going on. We would all be a lot happier if we didn't know from hour to hour the state of the world's leaders, followers, and also-rans, their friends and families, their pets' diets, and what they're covering their nakedness with at the moment, assuming they aren't running buck naked through the town square for fun and profit.

This being St. Patrick's Day, it behooves us to remember the words of that immortal Irish bard, Anonymous, who said: "In Ireland, a writer is looked upon as a failed conversationalist." And we can't leave without a word from Oscar Wilde: "To disagree with three-fourths of the British public is one of the first requisites of sanity."
