Avast Internet Security has a new program update released, so check yours. Also, don't forget to check Windows' Action Center to sort out who is doing what to whom in there, after you get that update installed. Windows doesn't seem to be very good at detecting and allowing other brands of security.
Speaking of others, don't rely on Avast alone for your complete protection. Read some of the notes from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, which will tell you that it is no substitute for an anti-virus program, and vice-versa. They complement each other. Anti-virus programs can detect viruses that would be missed by Malwarebytes, and Malwarebytes can detect other things that will be missed by the anti-virus. "Like what?" you ask. Like zero-day security intrusions for which there are no database records yet, and also Malwarebytes will block attempts by malicious websites to gain access into your computer. It shows you a pop-up as it does this, so you can see the IP Address of the offending website, and you can use that to find out who the hell they are. Some are coming from host sites in the Netherlands, Sweden, and also Russia. Some of those sites are hosts to hundreds of others, and this is why we need all the protection we can get.
Speaking of that, get QFX Software's KeyScrambler which protects you from keyloggers by encrypting everything you type so it can't be read by keyloggers.
This works on all your browsers, and there's a free version for personal use.
Before I go, let me also add that Malwarebytes makes a little program called Chameleon which can get your scanner going even if you're infected, and it can also kill off malicious programs as it does that, and then it starts your regular Malwarebytes scanner to make sure you're clean. Things like this can make a lot of difference, and that's another reason for having their paid version.
