Full moon setting this morning

A picture is worth a thousand words, and Canon gets the picture.

  1. The magnification required to get the detail on the moon sort of messed up the house on the horizon,
but as Eolake might say, "It's all about making compromises..."

I wanted to take that picture using the new Pentax X70, but as I had discovered earlier that night, its fancy 24X optical zoom wouldn't show a single bit of detail on the moon. All it did was make a big bright spot even larger.
It's good for zooming in on stuff during daylight, but it isn't worth a damn after dark. So this would not be a good choice for Peeping Toms. Or anybody that thinks a 'superzoom' can take the place of a camera with removable lenses which can be replaced by telephoto ones. I think I blew it
on that deal. But its 24X optical zoom really does work - so maybe I shouldn't cry too much. I got what I thought I wanted. But for details on really long shots, the
little Canon G9 with its added doubler lens on top of the zoom is the way to go. That's what took this shot. Canon's image stabilization doesn't always work like it should, though, and that can be frustrating. But when it does work, it takes nice pictures.
Is it the camera? Or is it me? I don't know for sure yet. I'm still testing.
