It's nice to have two computers...

Today, while using the newer of these, I put 'Disk Cleanup' to work in this other one, and it found and removed 15.2 GB of useless stuff that is no longer needed in here.

There are third-party programs, like CCleaner, available for doing that, and those are very good. But why not use the one designed into the operating system? It may take a little longer sometimes, but there's the satisfaction of knowing that it will leave you with your system still functioning normally.

The same can be said for programs like 'Disc Defrag', such as Auslogics Disc Defrag. It is very good at defragmenting the drive, and it has some nice graphics changing those little squares that represent its segments, but if we read the 'fine print', Microsoft says that its drives are monitored steadily, and do not require defragmenting nearly as frequently as we have been led to believe. And when defragmenting really is required, Microsoft's own built-in tool does the job every bit as competently as anyone's, so we don't need third-party tools for that job either. Just look in Control Panel > Administrative Tools for a complete list of all Windows' built-in tools. Each item in that list is clickable to open that tool. Then just follow the directions.  It's easy!
