And here's how PC-BSD upgrades its O/S... (just to compare)
You get a little notice like this, when you check for updates, and when you tell it to proceed, it automatically installs a whole fresh operating system for you, and this happens quarterly these days. I just happened to turn it on at the right time for this, so I thought I'd show you....
And about fifty minutes later, your new system has been installed, and everything in your personal files is right where you left it. I think this is just beautiful, and I'm pointing this out because I think Microsoft could benefit from this same idea. If Microsoft can't see themselves doing this for free, then the answer to that is a subscription. If people subscribe to Netflix or porn sites, then why not to Microsoft? This is the 21st century, after all....and the folks at Pacific Lutheran University with their KPLU.org and world-wide Internet radio have been doing alright being listener-supported for years. So we know it works for them, and that means it can work for others too. Just a thought, folks. Because there's always more than one way to skin a cat. Think about it....
